Press Releases< back to Press Release listParticipant Productions Launches Television Division, Names Respected Industry Veteran John Moser as Vice PresidentLos Angeles, November 8, 2007 – Participant Productions is further expanding its content offerings by launching a television department and has hired longtime executive John Moser to serve as vice president of the division. The announcement was made today by Participant CEO Jim Berk.In continuing to develop the Participant brand, the television division offers a new medium for the company to expand its content creation capabilities. Moser will be responsible for the conception, development, and production of original television programming that will follow the company’s model of commercial and socially relevant entertainment. Participant’s expansion into television is part of a larger strategy to develop, create and distribute content in other areas of media and entertainment. Leveraging the company’s core expertise in film development, marketing and social action, Moser will be responsible for the development of original television entertainment. Moser will report to Ricky Strauss, President of Participant, who commented: “Participant’s entry into television is a natural extension of our brand as we pursue forms of media beyond feature films and documentaries. John’s experience and sensibility complement our goals perfectly. His talent in creating award-winning programming that entertains and inspires is strategically aligned with what we’re hoping to achieve. We are looking forward to working with him.” Most recently, Moser served as Vice President of Original Programming at Showtime Networks Inc., where he supervised the development and production of a number of the network’s most award-winning movies, series and documentaries. He was particularly instrumental in the development of the network’s Emmy-nominated series THIS AMERICAN LIFE and its successful line-up of documentaries, including SHAME, which had its world premiere at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival and is currently being presented around the world by AFI and the National Endowment for the Arts’ 20/20 world tour. In addition, Moser supervised the documentaries RIKERS HIGH and SAME SEX AMERICA, each of which has earned numerous awards and nominations. Prior to joining Showtime, Moser worked with Chanticleer Films and Hallmark Entertainment. Before making the move into the television and film arenas, Moser worked as a director and producer in not-for-profit and for-profit theater. He was awarded The United Nations Society of Writers Award for Excellence for his international theater exchange with The Russian Academy of Theatrical Arts (GITIS). Moser also wrote, directed and produced a highly acclaimed two-person musical, “Yours Lulu – Broadway to Berlin,” about silent film star Louise Brooks. Participant Productions is a Los Angeles-based production company that focuses on socially relevant, commercially viable feature films and documentaries. Participant's films have been chosen to awaken, inspire and empower audiences to take action and create change. The company is headed by CEO Jim Berk and President Ricky Strauss. Participant was founded by philanthropist Jeff Skoll, who serves as Chairman. Upcoming releases include Mike Nichols’ CHARLIE WILSON’S WAR, Marc Forster's THE KITE RUNNER, Errol Morris’ S.O.P. Participant’s most recent success is AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, which won two Academy Awards -- for Best Documentary and Best Original Song -- and has become one of the highest-grossing documentaries in history.
